Legal Requirements to Marry in Cyprus
Civil Ceremony
We are here to assist you both with the Legal documents needed in order to Marry in Cyprus. We will arrange the appointments for the Local Town Hall and take them to the Registrar for them to be checked prior to your arrival on the Island.
Legal Requirements - British National
Be resident for three working days before the wedding day. (This is not actually a legal requirement, but you must go to the Town Hall before your wedding day to present your legal paperwork. The Town Hall is open Mon-Fri, mornings only.)
A Valid ten-year passports.
Bride & Groom must each have a Single Statutory Declaration from a solicitor or a Notary Public with Apostille Stamp. Must be dated and signed within 12 weeks of your wedding day.
The arrival of tourists must be done from the recognised points of entry in the Republic of Cyprus (Paphos or Larnaka airport)
Irish Nationals need a Freedom to Marry Certificate from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland or the Irish Embassy in the UK. These documents are valid for three months, although the Irish Embassy advise you apply at least four months before, with Apostille.
Original Decree Absolute if divorced, or a Certified Copy, with Apostille.
Marriage Certificate & Death Certificate of late husband / wife, if widowed, with Apostille.
Proof of any name change by Deed Poll, stamped and signed by a solicitor, with Apostille.
Full Birth Certificates (must have parent’s names listed)
Original Adoption certificates, if adopted, with Apostille.
Proof of parental consent if under 18, stamped and signed by a solicitor, with Apostille.
Photocopies of the Witnesses passport information page. (Witnesses must be at least 18 years of age).
ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE ORIGINALS OR CERTIFIED COPIES. PHOTOCOPIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
The above is applicable to British Nationals.
Legal Requirements - Non British National
Valid ten-year passports, not due to expire within six months of travel.
Bride & Groom must each have a document from their Embassy stating that they are free to marry. These documents are sometimes called Certificate of No Impediment or Freedom to Marry Certificate, each Embassy will know what is required for a National marrying abroad. These documents must include the following information: full name (as per passport), address, Nationality, passport number and state whether single, divorced or widowed; and state the intent to marry in Cyprus; and be signed , stamped with Apostille from a Notary Public. Please note: These documents are only valid for 12 weeks.
Decree Absolute if divorced, with Apostille.
Birth certificates
Marriage Certificate & Death Certificate of late husband / wife, if widowed, with Apostille.
Proof of any name change by Deed Poll, with Apostille.
Original Adoption certificates, if adopted, with Apostille.
Proof of parental consent if under 18, stamped and signed by a solicitor, with Apostille.
